Bioengineering Graduate Studies
Degree programs
The Bioengineering Department's focus is on training high-level graduate students for a Ph.D. in Bioengineering. The department also participates in the Medical Scholars Program, which allows students to earn an M.D. degree and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering.
The mission of the Bioengineering Graduate Program is to provide students with educational and research experiences that integrate the sciences of biology and medicine with the practices and principles of engineering. The goal is to achieve a more detailed understanding of biological phenomena and to develop new techniques and devices. The University of Illinois along with the Department of Bioengineering has a number of graduate fellowships and training opportunities available such as the Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) and the Midwest Cancer Nanotechnology Training Center (M-CNTC).
The program prepares graduates for highly productive and distinguished careers in research, academe, or business.
The College of Engineering at the University of Illinois is ranked fifth in the United States for 2009/10 by U.S. News and World Report.
