The Department of Bioengineering at the Univerisity of Illinois was created in 2004 in order to establish a top-rated educational curriculum in Bioengineering on the solid foundation and strong tradition in quality and excellence in biomedical research and at the University of Illinois. Graduate students have the opportunity to do cutting-edge research with over sixty faculty members at prestigious centers such as the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, the Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory, and the Institute for Genomic Biology. The College of Engineering is ranked 5th by U.S. News and World Report for graduate studies in Engineering.
