The Fulbright Specialist program provides U.S. scholars — postdocs with at least five years of teaching or professional experience — with the opportunity to assist institutions abroad via specific, short-term projects. Administering the Fulbright program is the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, which matches scholars with approved host institutions. Specialists are funded to work abroad on projects lasting from two to six weeks, allowing them flexibility and minimal impact on their current commitments. Support from the program covers international travel expenses and a per-day grant payment, while the host institution handles in-country costs.

One of five institutions of higher education located in France as part of the country’s Group of Central Schools, École Centrale de Lille was established in the 1850s to train industrial engineers. Since then it has expanded its curriculum considerably while nurturing close ties to industry and sister institutions to the benefit of its students.
