Ph.D. in Computer Science, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, December 2006

Research Statement:
Our general research interest is Computational Biology. We have two main directions in the laboratory:
(1) Using comparative genomics approach to better understand the human genome as well as cross-species differences and within-species variation. We are designing models and algorithms to determine different types of genomic changes (from point mutation to structural genomic changes) and their functional implications.
(2) Using next-generation sequencing technologies to elucidate the complexity of cancer genomes. We are developing efficient tools to handle massive amount of sequence data in order to identify genomic aberrations associated with cancer development and evolution.

Teaching Statement:
BIOE 498JM/598JM "Computational Cancer Biology" (Fall 2010, Fall 2011)
BIOE 398 "Statistical Analysis for Genomic Data" (Spring 2010, Spring 2011)

Research Interests:

  • Computational Biology, Comparative Genomics, Cancer Genomics, Sequence Analysis

Undergraduate Research Opportunities:
We are looking for highly motivated undergraduate students to work on computational biology and cancer genomics.
